Remote communication is broken.

Remote communication is broken.

Remote communication is broken.

Let's fix it.

Let's fix it.

Let's fix it.

I'm Marc von Brockdorff, co-founder of Hotjar, a remote company that today employs hundreds of people around the globe.

Remote working worked beautifully for us. We launched in 2014, at a time when remote working was the exception, not the norm. We learned by trial and error what was effective and what was not in a remote environment. For the most part, we succeeded. We built an incredibly talented and diverse team who helped Hotjar become what it is today.

But I’ve got a confession to make: I struggled to keep up with all the conversations around me. I found myself drowning in email threads, Discourse chats, Slack pings, and more. More often than I'd like to admit, I'd miss important discussions because I was lost in a sea of irrelevant ones. And when I did finally catch up with important conversations, I was usually late to the party.

I used to dream of a better tool.

A tool that would help me focus rather than distract me.

A simple, clutter-free communication experience designed specifically for remote teams to stay in sync without feeling overwhelmed.

It’s now been almost 2 years since leaving Hotjar for a break. During this time, I've found myself repeatedly thinking about what a better communication experience would look like.

I think I've finally got it.

Together with Renato Costa, I'm creating a tool that helps teams and individuals rethink how they connect and communicate remotely. It's ambitious but I genuinely believe the current approach to communication needs a serious overhaul.

This letter is my commitment to do something about it. To build the tool I wish I had at the beginning of my career. There has to be a better way.
